Zonegran And Insomnia
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is switching from trileptal to zonegran currently. He just started having issues sleeping at night the last week or so - he is now taking 150mg of zonegran at bedtime and is weaning off trileptal (now at 600mg AM and PM). Will be checking blood levels of both the end of this week before our next decrease of trileptal.

Has anyone had insomnia on zonegran? If so, did moving it to AM help at all?

Thanks!

I have been on Vimpat and Zonisamide for about ten years and I’ve had insomnia as long as I’ve been on these meds. I’m demanding a medication change now

Ever Try Lowering The Dosage Amount Of A Anti Seizure Med To Help With Insomnia?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I believe the insomnia started with the addition of Zonisamide. It was manageable at the time.
For unknown reasons Post Surgery I’m not able to get any decent sleep.
We’re starting with trying melatonin. Then a sleep pill (trazadone). If neither work we’ll try lowering the zonisamide.

Generally anything like that has to be done by a GP or the specialist. You can't just play around with it.

I often go on a 2 week spree without bearly any sleep. Half an hour here, maybe an hour there, and then after 2 weeks I totally collapse. Besides these 2 week sprees, I sleep very little. I am always tired and without any energy.
