Has Anyone Been Prescribed Keppra (Levetiracetam) For Epileptic Seizures?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Levetiracetam is my current medication/treatment for seizures but I can’t stand the side effects, such as insomnia, loss of appetite, irritability, and worsening depression.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I strongly suggest you talk to your doctor about how you’re reacting to the side effects of Keppra & ask if there’s another medication they can put you on. Many of us on here have experienced those bad side effects & we didn’t like them & so we got off it. In 2019 I was on Keppra for 2 months & it made me so tired that I had to take a nap every day & eventually I started having trouble sleeping & so I got off it. Keppra is known to cause mood swings, anger issues & make people not act like themselves, all known as the Keppra Rage. Keppra is also known to cause excessive drowsiness & sometimes known to cause trouble sleeping. You’ll find mixed reviews of Keppra on this site where some didn’t Lou the side effects of it & so they got off it, there’s some who the side effects don’t bother & there’s others who don’t like the side effects but can’t find anything else to work & so they deal with the side effects. So talk to your doctor. If you ever begin having a reaction to the side effects of your medication, that you don’t like, don’t hesitate to reach out to your doctor. Good luck. I have an appointment with a different neurologist next week. They have a seizure specialist I am looking forward to speaking to and presenting this issue. Thank you for taking the time to reach out Becky. Gratefully, your friend in Las Vegas, Marcel

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I hope things get better once you’re off the Keppra. I’ve been on Vimpat since November 2019. When I first started it there wasn’t a generic available & so I contacted the manufacturer of the Vimpat & was approved for their Patient Assistance Program & didn’t have to pay anything for my Vimpat. Then my disability was approved in 2022 & so I finally began getting insurance & so I began the generic of the Vimpat that had come out. The only problem I think I’ve had with the Vimpat is we have to be careful how much my Neurologist increases my dosage & when because one time she increased my Vimpat, I think it was my morning dosage & it made my fingers shake a little & so I stopped taking that extra dosage. Then last year after one of my seizures she increased my Vimpat by 50mg at night & things have been ok so far when it comes to the shaking. My seizures still occur off & on. Good luck with your EEG. Good luck with your Vimpat. Your friend in Texas, Becky

Saw a board certified neurologist that specializes in seizures. I will be tapering off the Keppra while starting on a new medication Vimpat (Lacosamide)
I am also going for an EEG
Wish me luck, I want these seizures gone! Sure would love to drive again. Thanks everyone for your support and advice!
