In genral I think they say you should give about 3-6 months to allow it to work. It will work well before then, but it takes a while for side effects to subside. Then once it's working you should wait 12 months to see how well it does unless there is a major problem.

Drink water, stay hydrated. If your Dr., Prescribes let them know your awareness of what's going on highs and lows.
When I was younger I didn't like Dilantin or tegretol I know Dilantin foreshore. It was hard on me. Tegretol I think I took, but then I stopped taking meds. Then I had a trauma in my life again. So I had a new neurologist she has me on Keppra & Trileptal. It's working for me. I have Grand mal ( shaking or falling out or I have them in my sleep). I try to have a letterdiet nothing wild just involve frozen fruit and more water in my diet. And I garden

I'm sorry you're going through this. My neurologist convinced me to try lamotrigine and the side-effects up to and including agitation, took 6 weeks. Now I'm seizure free for 5 months. Some irritability but not bad. I'm not familiar with Lamictal. Best wishes in finding what works for you.

Specific meds work differently for each individual, so there’s no one size fits all. That said, I have been on lamictal for over 20 years, and am very fortunate it is still working. I do have the slight dizziness (it improved after a few months), unsteadiness, and for me it was a weight gain. But it, combined with another drug, kept my seizures at bay for 10 years. And after 1 breakthrough event, I have been seizure free since.

I would give it a little while longer, but talk to your doctor about that sleep apnea, because stopping breathing can even make seizures worse. Good luck, keep positive through the dark times, and I wish you seizure free days…

There’s all kinds of side effects from medication, and each has different effects on everyone. For example if I had to take a sobriety test doing one foot in front of the other, I would definitely fail. Before I had epilepsy, I could roller skate, now I can’t. My daughter didn’t believe me so I asked if I would have to pay for my skates (at a rink) if I brought them back after showing her and fortunately she she said yes. I can’t tell you how many times I fell as I was even trying to hold myself up on the rails on the side and finally make it so I could take them off. 😩👍
