Is It Safe To Wear A Custom Fit Dental Guard?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello
A while back, I had a seizure that caused me to fall on my face and damage my top front teeth. It took sone time, but they’re finally fixed! My dentists and dental assistant are worried about me damaging my teeth again so they made me a custom fit dental guard. The guard is supposed to protect my teeth from grinding as well. They said the guard is optional and that I could wear it for a few hours in the day or in the night while I sleep. However, they keep highly recommending I wear it.… read more

Likewise, back when the dentist I had who told me that I should get the mouth guard (because I was grinding my teeth) told me that I needed a referral from my neurologist (2nd neurologist) at the… read more

Does Anyone Get Flashing Lights In Their Peripheral Vision?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

The light may not exactly flash but it moves along the side, front to back, of your peripheral vision in one of your eyes. Also, does anybody else get it when you change to light or darker settings? For example, If you walked from a brighter to a darker section of a room, or if a large piece of hair suddenly falls near your eyes and blocks light.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

Sure, almost everyone gets this at some point. It is most likely caused by vitreous separation, something that happens to us as we age. Check with your eye doctor to make sure, though.

Mine don't, either. Where are yours coming from? I was told mine could be coming from too deep in the frontal temporal lobe to show up on an EEG.

Can't Remember Name Of Drug For Stress And Sleep Deprived Seizures
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Ok finally I have a question. I read about a treatment for seizures that triggered by stress and lack of sleep. I cannot seem to find or remember the name of it. Can somebody help me with this?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

My Dr. Has me on Clonezepam to help me sleep . For stress I'm not sure what's out there that will not interact will your seizure meds. The best thing to do is talk to your Doctor.

Is There An Epileptic Personality?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I read that there is a belief that epileptics share certain personality traits, more common/recognizable in those with TLE. I started reaerching it because I felt like I saw commonalities and was surprised to see so much research on the subject. I don't think anyone would know better than us. What do you think?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

The short answer is no, the theory of the Epileptic Personality was disproven. The long answer is in the next few paragraphs.

It's a very old concept. I'm talking thousands of years old. People once… read more

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’m a teenager and sometimes I feel like an outcast because I don’t have a license or a car. It just sucks asking for a ride all the time and they get mad at you. It’s just I’m struggling with this so much. I just want to feel like I have some control.

Peripheral Vision Post Surgery?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’ve previously read that my peripheral vision could be a concern. Post surgery. I’ll be contacting my doctor.
It’s not like I can’t see. It’s more glares and grid like patterns I’m seeing.
Any reflection through the window I clearly see across the ceiling. Anyone experienced this?

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

Yes, a couple of years ago I had a break through seizure. The first one since brain surgery in 1990. After the seizure I lost 3/4 of my eyesight. I can see straight ahead but I can't see to the side… read more

Vimpat
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was put on vimpat a few months ago
In the hopes of weaning off of topamax all together since topamax is not safe with pregnancy. Since starting vimpat I have been feeling extremely tired and just not like myself at all. It has not gotten rid of my seizures at night so my nuerologist wants to keep me on it a bit longer to see if it will kick in. Does anyone have experience with this medication and know how long it took to get rid of seizures/what dosage? Did the side effects get better?

Thanks

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

Vimpat is an enhancer as well. So it also made the Topomax a little more. It does make you really sleepy. It also was the slowest one I ever took to adjust! I was starting to get impatient until it… read more
