Hi guys,
I'm not on any medication at the moment for my tonic clonic and grand mal seizures.
I'm wanting to speak to my Dr about maybe starting Topomax.
Has anyone been on it? Any side effects? Does it help stop seizures?
Did you take topomax in conjunction with other seizure meds or on it's own?
Thanks heaps.
I hope you have a blessed Christmas holiday also @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member

Can hormones irritate seizures or cause seizures? Menopause effect:
When I was pregnant, I had less seizures? During pregnancy the 3 hormones vary. Estrogene excites seizures, progesterone prohibits seizures and testosterone has no reaction on seizures. Therefore, could natural progesterone be used to control seizures.
I've never had a reaction during my cycles, probably because mine were caused from tumors, so I can't speak on that. However, after my last 2 surgeries, which included having almost a whole lobectomy… read more

Hey ladies! I have a serious question. Have any of you noticed an increase in your seizure occurance or severity at specific times during your menstrual cycle? When? I tried talking to my neurologist about this, but HE just shrugged me off. I'm just curious if anyone else has noticed that link.
Yes, big time! I thought it would stop the moment post menstrual began.... No because my seizures began when my period's started... Uggh! One of my old Neurologist thought so.....
I’d like to hear from other women with Catamenial Epilepsy and what their symptoms and experiences are like , are they monthly? How do you handle your monthly hormonal cycle?
Monthly hormonal cycles are now a distant memory. It was TOUGH! I felt like every aspect of my epilepsy was aggravated geometrically times 10 each month. What an ordeal
