Menstrual Cycle And Seizure Activity.
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hey ladies! I have a serious question. Have any of you noticed an increase in your seizure occurance or severity at specific times during your menstrual cycle? When? I tried talking to my neurologist about this, but HE just shrugged me off. I'm just curious if anyone else has noticed that link.

Yep. There have been times where I used to only get them right before or during my cycle. They are called Catamenial seizures. I told my neuro about it and he doesn't think that's it. I still keep track of my cycle as well as seizure occurrences.

Yes! Plain & simple....I never took the "pill" but when I got in the 40's, my Gynecologist & Neurologist spoke about it and thought it would be a good idea to do it.... WRONG! Never controlled it and forget the rest but it was never the same again.... It was terrible to be put on it.

It is normal to have more during your menstrual cycle. Hormones are high and powerful. I always have more before, check my calendar, and say to myself no wonder, it's time. My neurologist gave me medication called Onfi that helps around that time of the month. Talk to yours and see what he says.

I had mine removed so that my body would go back to being able to FEEL the seizures come on. I used to make them go away by just relaxing. It took over fifteen years to feel them.
