Has Anyone Had Or Has Seizures That Start With A Severe Thumb Cramp?

My Grand Mal seizures always would start with my right thumb cramping up to a point that it feels like my hand is peeling back open on itself. It's the worst pain you could ever imagine. I would start praying to go unconscious so I wouldn’t feel it anymore. Then that's when the convulsing and actual seizure would start after I blacked out. I would wake up 20-45 minutes later very confused and with a headache and all the blood vessels above and around my eyes would be popped from straining soo… read more

What's great bout this is you know those horrible seizures are controlled. We all have unique types of feelings, sensations at start of seizure. Body parts used most- as you said your thumb reacts at first. It's like a dream cause the subconscious steps in when brain is having a problem so our conscious mind & body just can't function. I just say oh well but still get the intense emotion till it's over. To analyze how why a seizure starts is like trying this for our dreams. When you feel this assure yourself it will pass, no biggie will happen & you'll be fine. I just shrug it off & am glad I know the reason is just epilepsy not a stroke or worse. We can be our normal self after too.

I don’t think so. Cause I have actually grabbed my thumb and held off the cramping b4. Its from overusing my thumb when Im awake tbat can cause it to cramp. I even now instinctually wake up and reach right to my thumb to catch it before it can cramp up. But in my sleep I can feel it coming on diffrrently then when awake. Its really weird. Maybe it is a type of aura and just a stopable one? I’d love to hear from someone tbat has had the same expierience and has gotten good info about it from their Dr. Cheers

Its likely an aura. You have a grand mal after every time right? Auras come before a seizure, any type, as a sort of warning i guess. Theres a lot of different types of auras, i have auras only because of my meds, mine are like a deja vu feeling or an uprising/rollercoaster feeling in my stomach for like 30 seconds. Others might have a limb fall asleep or go numb, get a bad taste or smell, etc. i have a complex partial diagnosis, absent seizures if im unmedicated, but i dont have auras before for some reason, i believe only grand mals do. But my meds stopped them and i have only auras.
