I am taking Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) and vimpat for my seizures. I have temporal lobe epilepsy. I had a bad grand mal seizure about a month ago; first one that bad in 12 years! My neurologist increased my trileptal and I was seeing double both day and night, vomiting, etc. He decreased it somewhat, but I still have the side effects. He has referred me to an epilepsy specialist because he’s running out of medication options I suppose. I’ve had double vision at night since starting it by the way… read more

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member i tried every med with no help until keppra and phenobarbital (everyone is different so meds are different) and surgery. but that didnt help so i tried alternative med and treatments and hippie diets (before the surgery). what works for me is the keto diet. it really reduced my seizures. about less than a year ago i researched and tried cbd oil and now i am seizure free for about a month or 2 after i tried the stuff. i started low strength and worked my way up. watch out thou because different state have different laws about cbd/thc. my state has no thc of any kind.

Only my opinion but I think you are in much better hands with an Epitologist. I can only base it on my experience. Immediately following an hour and a half long meeting with my Epitologist things quickly happened.
First off the man believed in me and didn't send me away with nerve pills. That is when he pushed with all his strength to get me in for testing for possibly brain surgery. Dr. Mark Sadler in Nova Scotia. I was done testing in late October and on an operating table in December. Best of luck and keep us posted. Wendy

Your probably be better seeing an Epileptologist ( Epilepsy specialist ). They are good at find different paths to try to help with our Epilepsy. There are other things to try besides medication.

Good luck with the specialist.

You have already started doing the best possible thing: dealing with it/accepting it. I would add trileptal to that list of medications You can't take. I know there are other medications that a targeted for children? If it does not scare You contact the Epilepsy Foundation describe what is happening and tell people there what is happening also. Possibly get a list of other medications You have not tried yet and bring that to Your next appointment and definitely tell that person where You got that list. Good Luck!

Lamictal caused severe insomnia, Keppra made me super “crazy” for lack of a better word, I had a severe bad reaction to Fycompa, couldn’t see my phone to even text because it gave me such bad vertigo. My husband had to carry me to the bathroom and I couldn’t sit up straight (it was awful) Briviact made me throw up and have diarrhea for a month and a half straight. I just got an email yesterday confirming an appointment with a specialist June 3rd! Woo hooo! 😁
