I'm starting to have issues with generic Aptiom to the point where I needed to contact my epilepsy specialist and let them know we needed to make some changes ASAP.

The aura activity has gone bezerk and one absence stronger than usual. This is very concerning. Thankfully the senior person of the care team has been in touch with me by email saying this issue will be managed so I can go back onto brand Aptiom at a lower pricing since we know that one works best.

Has anyone else had issues with… read more

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member thanks so much for your thoughts. I fully understand your point of view as this is a very big deal. My specialist and the epilepsy team is taking this to heart and doing what is necessary to make sure the Aptiom brand is put back into place as quickly as possible. Someone from my specialist team stated to me the pharmacy will be made aware only Aptiom brand can be taken when the change begins, that gave me ease of mind. I was also made aware that specific paperwork is being filled out so it's just a matter of time for everything to work it's way through. We are staying in touch with one another through email.

I’m glad u can get back on the brand name since that works best for u. I have to have brand name vimpat or the generic ones give me either a TIA or a full blown stroke and that’s what my dr prescribed so every year I have to get the pharmacy to fax a request for brand name meds or u automatically get the generic ones. Its the first time I’ve had a mini stroke or a stroke due to the difference between generic and brand name meds. So I’m glad ur dr is taking ur concerns seriously. Best of luck

I am taking Generic Briviact and had a Blood Draw the other day. There was no issue. If you are having bad side effects or problems, call them immediately. They can tell the Pharmacy Brand Name Only.

Has anyone else on MyEpilepsyTeam had issues switching to the generic version of Aptiom?

It's great that your care team is already on top of this and working to get you back on brand Aptiom — that's exactly the kind of responsive support you need when seizure activity changes suddenly.

You're definitely not alone in this experience. Many MyEpilepsyTeam members have reported noticing differences when switching between brand-name and generic anti-seizure medications. Even small differences in how a generic is formulated can affect how the medication works in your body. A few things worth keeping in mind going forward:

- Missing or inconsistent medication levels is one of the most common triggers for breakthrough seizures and increased aura activity
- Always notify your neurologist any time you're switched between brand and generic versions of your medication
- Ask your pharmacist to flag your file so that future refills stay consistent — brand or generic, not alternating between both

It's really important to keep a close eye on your aura activity and absence seizures during this transition back to brand Aptiom, and report any changes to your care team promptly.
