Think one causes more side effects than the other in my opinion I think the RX does better with me than the generic brands. I’ve had more issues with generic prescriptions and I have with the regular ones.

Members weighed in on whether brand-name epilepsy medications work better than generics, with most agreeing that the experience varies widely from person to person. Several members shared that inactive ingredients like fillers and binders in generics can cause real differences in side effects, with some noting they switched back to brand-name versions after troubling reactions to specific generics. A recurring theme was frustration with insurance companies and pharmacies that limit access to brand-name medications or 90-day refills, even when doctors recommend otherwise.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, I’ve been on several different meds and some generic brands worked better than the Actual ones. Yet I have had some where the main Brand was better with less side effects. I’m currently on lamotrigine. (generic.). It’s okay but I like the potency of the original better.. I have to take fewer pills with the original. But my insurance will only cover generic..

Three of my medications are generic. I haven't received a problem from any of them.

My opinion with Brand Names VS Generic Brands

Brand names work better most of the time. But that doesn’t mean that the generic is not going to work.

A lot of times our insurances don’t want to pay for the Brand named Drugs .

There are some people that can only take the brand medicine as the generic medicine will cause them to have troubles due to the fillers that are used in the generic medicine.

I would recommend speaking with your specialist about the current medication you are taking and any side effects that you are experiencing.
