Members discussed what to do with unused or expired medications, with the overwhelming consensus being that antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) should never be used past their expiration date since their effectiveness decreases over time, potentially increasing seizure risk. Several members shared practical disposal methods, including returning medications to pharmacies, participating in police station take-back programs, or attending community medication disposal days, while many cautioned against throwing pills in the trash or flushing them down toilets due to environmental contamination of soil, water, and food supplies. A recurring theme was the importance of proper medication management and safe disposal practices to protect both personal health and the broader ecosystem.

Police stations and other organizations have medicine disposal days. You bring in the medicine- no matter how little/much is left and they dispose of it for you.

Never take old medicine that's not good for you at all. You can get sick.

For AEDs, I'll keep them for a couple months past the date, but if their not used by then I'll toss them. Regarding other drugs it all depends as the efficacy drops off as it gets older. High power pain killers and lymphoma drugs I keep around

Medication that I have stopped using is given back to my local pharmacy so they can destroy it.
I will not give out my medication to anyone, I would rather have it destroyed that way I know no other person can get their hands on it. It is not safe to throw medication down the toilet as medication will damage the sewer lines. I will not put medication down the sink as it will damage the water people drink. I will not put medication bottle into the trash as it can and will possibly be gotten a hold of by those that are trash diggers and I will not be blamed for someone's death. I would rather remove my medication safely by providing my medication to the pharmacy so they can remove it safely.
