I've had a really strong sense of anxiety which turned out to be a focal seizure. This is very similar to what you're talking about.

I have had that feeling and thankfully been at home. It's all consuming, over whelming feeling. I have to sit and brace the chair.

Has anyone else experienced terror with their temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) seizures?

Yes, experiencing sudden feelings of fear or terror is actually a common symptom of TLE seizures. When seizures start in the temporal lobe, they can cause intense emotions, particularly fear or panic.

These emotional symptoms can occur during focal onset aware seizures (where you remain conscious) and may include:
- Sudden, intense fear or panic
- A sense of dread
- Unusual or extreme emotions like joy (though fear is more common)

Some people describe these feelings as part of their aura - the warning signs before a seizure. The fear can be overwhelming and happen without any logical reason, which can be particularly distressing.

You're definitely not alone in experiencing this. Many MyEpilepsyTeam members have shared similar experiences with fear and anxiety related to their seizures. The terror you're feeling is a real symptom of how TLE affects the parts of your brain that process emotions.

If these feelings are significantly impacting your quality of life, it's worth discussing with your neurologist, as adjusting your treatment plan might help reduce these symptoms.
