Does Anyone Have Problems With Their Teeth Using Epilepsy Meds?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’m on a lot of medication for a variety of conditions. Within the last two years I’ve had some teeth removed. This is in spite of brushing my teeth really well. I’ve been trying to drink a half gallon of water every day.

I had a LOT of problems with my teeth when I was on Dilantin. Took a look of money to fix them and they are still not right. I changed meds.

I think keppra or topamax is messing mine up...they are terrible now what's left of them.

Something I learned long ago is that Dilantin can take a toll on your teeth.

I was on Dilantin for the first 2 years of my seizures and it did not control my seizures and left me with horrible dental issues. Many teeth became weakened at the gum line and fell out the remaining teeth needs to be extracted and I’m terrified of the dentist, LOL. Due to my seizures they won’t put me to sleep to do the needed dental work which sucks. Discuss your concerns with your doctor and take care.
