I was at the bowling alley last night and I subbed on one team then another. The league president said my score wouldn’t count on the second team because I had already bowled on another and she saw the score sheet and asked if anyone was keeping score and I said I could do it but she just ignored me. When she turned her back on me to talk to a member of the team, I raised my voice only because I’m used to it because nobody would normally hears me plus there was music playing. She turned around… read more

That sounds like an incredibly stressful and upsetting night — and it makes complete sense that your body reacted the way it did. Being confronted and feeling unheard is genuinely hard, especially when you were just trying to help.

Stress is one of the most commonly reported seizure triggers among people with epilepsy. When the body feels threatened, it goes into a heightened state that can lower the seizure threshold, making a seizure more likely. The shaking in your legs and arms, chest tightness, and that "about to seize" feeling are things other MyEpilepsyTeam members have described during stressful moments too. Some ways members manage stress-related triggers include:

- Removing themselves from the stressful situation as quickly as possible
- Walking slowly and focusing on breathing
- Keeping a seizure/trigger journal to identify patterns
- Letting people nearby know about their epilepsy so they can help

It's really worth mentioning last night's episode to your neurologist, including the physical symptoms and how close you felt to having a seizure. They may want to review your current treatment plan.

Most importantly — you got through a really difficult night. That matters. Please also reach out to a mental health professional or crisis support line about those thoughts you mentioned, because your overall wellbeing is just as important as managing your seizures. 💙

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member the president has treated me poorly in the past 5 years and she has discriminated me with both my seizures and my anxiety. The manager has done the same thing when I worked there. She forced me to go home when I had a seizure and there was one time she forced me off the clock while I was having one, both of which are against the ADA. Plus she was trying to keep me from working there because of my seizures but had no choice because I was given a job offer from the owner. Otherwise both of them discriminated me especially the president who just didn’t care about my disabilities which were approved in June. So I think they need to tell her that it was an uncontrolled tantrum due to my anxiety and causing health issues is discriminatory as she said that she didn’t care she did that. All she cared about was her pride as president and trying to ban me.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member it’s alright. People misunderstand me all the time and I misunderstand what read and hear all the time. Bowing is the only thing I do outside of the house besides walking to Dairy Queen every other week. Her discrimination has constantly irritated me and it really hurt me on and since Thursday. In addition, she always sticks her hand up to me not caring what I say. She is rude and multiple people at the bowling alley agree with me. I also think about suicide everyday too but I’m not going to do it. It’s just from my life and severe anxiety.

I wasn’t trying to be mean. I never knew you were a bowler like Mantle and I so I was just trying to include all 3 of us in a comment since we’re all bowlers. If I said anything that hurt you I’m sorry. I can’t comprehend things with my epilepsy either so I wasn’t even sure what everything said. I was just connecting us bowlers. So please don’t take what I said seriously 😢 i think about suicide everyday.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member all I was trying to do was help and her extremely rude back talk just made my anxiety into stress and I yelled for 5 seconds accidentally saying the f word which I never say, I just lost control of my mind and couldn’t stop myself from yelling. Her discriminating me about my legally disabled anxiety and epilepsy is putting her in the bad spot instead of me. She always ignores me and doesn’t care for me so she does what she can to make me frustrated and trying to cause me to at least have a seizure.
