I don’t let the fear get to me . I have always told myself that seizures and epilepsy can be a risk or have consequences anywhere or anytime.
There are low, moderate and high levels of consequences.
Doing our daily routines can have a certain level consequence, if we go into a seizure.
I’ve had seizures riding my Mt. Bike. Never stopped me from riding it. I’ve had seizures down a flight of stairs . And seizured doing other things. That never stopped me from doing it again.
I like Randy's reply - I still do everything I like. I started working out with weights several months ago. When talking with my neurologist he said that is great but do not use bar bells use hand weights. So I can still work out and not lose anything but the hand weights make it safer. I play golf - badly but I enjoy it - still on driving restrictions so no golf cart but I can walk which is healthy - I still play golf. Doing the things you love to do relaxes your body which is a good thing. Riding a bike - I never wore a helmet - probably a bad idea but never did. Now I do (safety issue in case of a seizure) but I ride a bike. Do what you like and keep going. Like Randy said, the seizures do not stop me from doing what I like to do.
I moved to an apartment with no steps and feel safer. We can't stop trying to help with our own care. It can get worse or it can get better.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I'm just thankful that currently the USA is not socialized medicine, I don't know where if it were. Although there is a medical center in StL that states they know what they're doing but I know of 4 people they killed due to incompetence, medical staff that claim they know what they're doing, but I have more knowledge than they do. They also are blaming the patients, etc. and yelling at me for calling Patient Quality Care office because they were treating my friend like crap. Sad to say he died. Lastnight a HS buddy told me a few more horror stories about the place. With kids these days wanting everything for free they vote for it out of stupidity, not realizing that getting things for free reduces quality of anything and demand goes up, increasing wait times and reduce availability as many on here can attest.
I pray you all get the care you need
I don’t mean to sound lIke I’m making light of anything but I just don’t worry about it too much, I mean people without epilepsy have fallen down the stairs, ladders burnt themselves while cooking, etc. It is a concern of mine but I try not to dwell and worry too much.
