For the longest time I didn’t get my focal myoclonic seizures checked out because I didn’t know what they were, and I thought I must be somehow doing it myself on purpose. It stopped me from mentioning it to doctors for years. Now that I’ve been diagnosed with epilepsy I still don’t feel like I’m epileptic enough to feel upset or ask for support. Because I’m awake and aware I feel like my epilepsy shouldn’t count as much as someone who has unaware seizures and that I shouldn’t feel as bad as I… read more

Good post, I have felt like that at first when I was diagnosed with and before diagnosed with it, I didn't know what was happening to me, but over the years I came and accepted it in my life with,it took a while but I am not complaining about it as is today, maybe the medical system will eventually get closer to a cure or better treatment for it and everyone else's condition they have or not, I don't have anything against technology and such etc but my best medicine is my daily routine of prayer and Bible study and faith in God of Abraham always and it my opinion here amen, but get people's opinions here which is ok with and then go to your doc about the post here and go from there about it and good luck with your outcome with it my opinion here amen

I am awake and aware during my focal seizures as well, I can even talk a little. I have felt the way you do, like mine aren’t as important as other people who have epilepsy because it’s not as extreme. I just joined this group because I find myself needing some support as well.

Youre probably getting partial seizures. Youre awake, aware and in control. Ive had those for 23 years after surgery. I was allowed to drive, but never did. 3 years ago I started getting absent and had my first grand mal seizure since surgery in 2000. They wont let me drive now. Beware of getting seizures that cause you to be unaware of whats going on. Especially if youre driving. That can be dangerous.

I’d been treated by epileptologists for a few years before recently learning I’m diagnosed with focal epilepsy. I have focal seizures of varying intensities and am awake and at least mostly aware during them. During some of them I can appear almost unresponsive, which is not a great experience. Having only focal aware seizures, regardless of symptoms, seems to come with a dose of imposter syndrome and I feel similarly to you.
