Members shared varied experiences with Keppra and fatigue, with some finding it very tiring while others tolerated it well or even found it kept them awake. Several members described managing side effects by talking openly with their doctors, with one member noting they successfully switched medications after fatigue made daily life too difficult. A recurring theme was that everyone responds differently to Keppra, and members encouraged one another to advocate for themselves with their doctors if side effects become hard to manage.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I saw a Neurology Nurse Practitioner in 2019 for about 3 months or so & I was taking my Depakote & Trileptal & had been for years, but for several months had been having some some awful shaking in my arms & my Family doctor ended up finding that my Depakote blood level was at 135 & normal is between 50 to 100. I didn’t have any insurance at the time & so I hadn’t gone to my Neurologist but my Family doctor insisted that I needed to get into a Neurologist right away & the Neurology Nurse Practitioner was the only person I could get into right away & she took me off my Trileptal & put me on Keppra & Keppra made me so tired that I had to take a nap every day & eventually I started having trouble sleeping & so I had to get off it. Others say that Keppra can cause mood swings, anger issues, all known as the Keppra Rage, but I never experienced that. If you get to where you’re not comfortable with the side effects of the Keppra, I strongly recommend that you let your doctor & see if they can find you another medication. Some people on here don’t have any problems with the side effects, yet others might have some problems with the side effects & others have issues with the side effects but deal with them because they can’t find anything else to work. Take care. Your friend in Texas, Becky

Ive been on it since 2000. Its the one med that gives me the least side effects.I was put on it after temporal lobe surgery. Very minimal weakness, which taking some electrolites improves. I cant deny, having to use the restroom 2-4 times a night can be tiring, but the benefits outweigh the downfalls. Everyones different. Some people are saying they get rage with it. I never have

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , If you feel you’ve given yourself enough time to try & get used to the side effects from the Keppra, then don’t hesitate to talk to your doctor to see if there’s a different medication available that might not make you so tired. The Neurology Nurse Practitioner that I saw for just a few months had taken me off my Trileptal & put me on Keppra & the Keppra made me so tired & I told her that if I was ever gonna go back to work again, that I had to get off it & I got off it. I had an attorney helping me the next couple years to get disability & was approved in 2022. So if it’s just making you way to tired & disturbing your life, tell your doctor. Here’s a link you can look at about Keppra with some information on it if you want to check it out: https://www.drugs.com/tips/keppra-patient-tips?... Good luck. Your friend in Texas, Becky
