I can’t go get a drink with friends because alcohol triggers my seizures, so I feel left out often. I am also trying to figure out how to feel less alone and have people understand what it feels like to constantly have the thought “You’re going to have a seizure” in your head 24/7. I have a therapist and she recommended trying something out like this! Any comments are appreciated!

Members warmly welcomed someone struggling with feeling left out due to alcohol-triggered seizures, offering reassurance that this community truly understands the constant worry of living with epilepsy. Many members shared that they still enjoy going out with friends by choosing non-alcoholic drinks, offering to be the designated driver, or simply nursing one drink slowly all night. A recurring theme was that real friends accept you as you are, and several members also suggested the Epilepsy Foundation's Call and Connect groups as a way to build a social circle with people who truly get it.

Prehaps you can still hang out with your friends but you don't have to drink alcohol.

sorry to say that most people who drink or smoke and know you dont might cut you off because youre no fun to be with. When i was young, i had to cut my friends off because they expected me to smoke. I dont drink, smoke or do illegal drugs. ANYONE WHO CANT ACCEPT YOU THE WAY YOU ARE ISNT YOUR FRIEND1

I agree with @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, go out with your friends and have a good time, but don't drink any alcohol. If you have good friends, they will understand your situation and include you in their activities. You never know, you might meet a nice guy when you're out with your friends!!

Go out and have fun!!

I like a gin & tonic and the majority of bars stock alcohol free gin. Also you can get alcohol free wines, beers, ales and the majority of spirits. Just ask at the bar!
