What you're describing β€” waking up confused, unable to read or comprehend things that are normally familiar β€” is something other MyEpilepsyTeam members have experienced too. Please don't feel embarrassed, you're definitely not alone in this.

What you experienced could possibly be a nocturnal seizure that happened during that 2-hour sleep. Waking up confused or disoriented is actually a recognized sign that something may have occurred during sleep.

Some other clues that a nocturnal seizure may have happened include:

- Morning tiredness or confusion
- Trouble concentrating after waking
- Sudden awakening
- Night sweats
- Unexplained muscle stiffness It's really important to bring this up with your neurologist as soon as possible. They may want to look into a sleep study combined with an EEG to monitor brain activity during sleep and get a clearer picture of what happened.

Also worth mentioning β€” sleep deprivation is actually one of the most common seizure triggers. Even broken or interrupted sleep (like waking at 8:30am and going back to sleep) can sometimes play a role.

Please don't let embarrassment hold you back from telling your doctor. This is exactly the kind of thing they need to know about to help keep you safe. πŸ’™

This has happened to me before a few times actually. I do have nocturnal seizures so they could be right, that it has something to do with that. Something that happened to me today. All day long nothing has felt familiar to me. Nothing at home, nothing at my sister's house, not even my dogs. It's so strange, I did recently have a pretty bad seizure though too. Anyway, I hope this helps. Goodnight
