Members rallied around the question of whether prescriptions can cause new side effects after years of use, with the strong consensus being that yes, side effects can appear at any time, even decades later. Several members shared personal experiences with blurred vision, tremors, balance issues, muscle weakness, and cognitive changes developing gradually over time, and many pointed to generic brand switches as a possible trigger for new reactions. A recurring theme was the frustration of feeling dismissed by neurologists, with many encouraging each other to advocate for themselves, consult pharmacists, keep seizure logs, seek second opinions, and consider switching to a more attentive doctor.

Yes. I started having problems with a med I had been on for yrs. My normal dr’s ruled out the possibility of the medication causing the symptoms, but I called my neurologist and he changed my meds immediately and said that I should have called him first. Then he called my dr’s, and gave them crap for not calling him to see if he could help.

Sweetnsimple, the last time I saw the nurse practitioner in this office. I had an MRI set up, but the hospital ended up denying on getting it done due to the medical device. I’ve got in me felt it would do harm to it so I’m gonna find out when I go back in November or just tell them that it’s probably time for me to get either go to a physical therapist or occupational therapist to see if they can do something or if they think something else needs to be done it’s feeling this mess through my legs is taking the energy right out of me.

Id was prescribed 5 mgs of a Muscle Relaxant to take at night. I learned from the Doctor at Yale that it increases the likelihood of a seizure. Because I only take it at night, but can be in pain during theg tion my blood levels were taken both before changing and after. If the Generic did not work as well or there she would change it back.

Every person reacts differently to medication, that is always a given. I can share a few questions that I have asked my local pharmacist. In the end you will need to discuss this issue with your epilepsy specialist after getting the information.

As for getting assistance from the local pharmacist a great question you should be able to get information on is the time length you have been taking the medication. You can take that information into your specialist then share the information along with your seizure logs then go into your reasoning why you feel it is time to begin something else. You can do this.
