I’m allergic to Lamictal and have read it can give you DRESS syndrome, so be careful . I know that Vimpat works and I’m still on it 100 mg a day . So 50 mg in the morning and 50 mg at night .

So sorry to hear about the loss of your aunt — grief and stress are real seizure triggers for many people with epilepsy, and it makes complete sense that things shifted after such a difficult event.

It's great that you and your doctor are exploring options after 6 months of tough side effects on Keppra XR. Both Vimpat (lacosamide) and Lamictal (lamotrigine) are used to treat tonic-clonic seizures, but they work a little differently. Here's a general comparison to help guide your conversation with your neurologist:

Vimpat (lacosamide):
- Works by stabilizing overactive nerve cells
- Generally well-tolerated
- Common side effects include dizziness, double vision, and nausea

Lamictal (lamotrigine):
- Also stabilizes electrical activity in the brain
- One MyEpilepsyTeam member found that a small dose reduction significantly improved their side effects
- Requires a slow dose increase to reduce risk of a serious skin rash The best choice really depends on your full medical history, other medications, and how your body responds. It's worth asking your neurologist specifically about stress-triggered seizures and which medication may offer better coverage for that pattern.

Bringing a list of the side effects Keppra XR caused to your appointment will help your doctor make the most informed switch possible.
