I really feel a pull to be an active member in my community and just feel like I want a job helping others like me cope, with a listening ear or support. I feel like hosting (arrange) a walk-a-thon, id really really appreciate any positive or kind negative opinions, suggestions, recommendations or advice.

Thanks in advance :)

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , You could reach out to your local Epilepsy Foundation & participate in the events they might offer, like their Epilepsy Walks that help raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation & your local Epilepsy Foundation likely offers support groups & you could participate in that & share your experience & support with others in your area. You can look up your local Epilepsy Foundation at www.epilepsy.com. You could also ask your local Epilepsy Foundation what they could suggest of how you could get more involved with helping others. You might could try volunteering with your local Epilepsy Foundation. Good luck. Your friend in Texas, Becky

How can you become more active in supporting others with epilepsy in your community?

Your desire to help others cope with epilepsy is wonderful! Organizing a walk-a-thon is a fantastic way to raise awareness, build community, and support others living with epilepsy.

Here are some suggestions to get started:

* Reach out to the Epilepsy Foundation's 24/7 helpline for guidance on organizing community events and connecting with local resources
* Connect with other members who share similar experiences to build your support network
* Consider becoming more active online by answering questions, welcoming new members, or sharing your story to help others feel less alone
* Look into local patient organizations that might already host events you could participate in or help coordinate

Many members find that helping others actually helps them cope better with their own challenges. One member shared that being part of the community and reading others' stories provides valuable insight and support.

If you're interested in making this more than volunteer work, you might explore opportunities with epilepsy advocacy organizations or support groups that need facilitators or peer supporters.

Your listening ear and willingness to support others is exactly what makes communities strong. Whether through a walk-a-thon or other involvement, your contribution will make a difference!
