@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I have TMJ where I grind my teeth when I sleep & wear a mouth guard that my dentist made specifically to fit my mouth. Over time they have eventually broken & one time it happened when I didn’t have any insurance. During that time I had a seizure in my sleep on 2 different nights & the first one I bit my bottom lip & it was swollen, numb & hurt so bad that I went to see my Family doctor & all she could recommend was putting ice on it to help the swelling & then a few days later I had another seizure in my sleep & bit my tongue. This helped me see that not does my mouth guard help protect my mouth because of my TMJ, but it can help protect my mouth if I have a seizure in my sleep. You could ask your dentist about making you a mouth guard & if your insurance would cover any of the cost. It might possibly be a little pricey but it’s worth it. The over the counter mouth guards were to loose. Prayers you get to feeling better soon. Your friend in Austin, Texas, Becky

I’ve never been known to bite my mouth during a seizure but I also didn’t know when I rode my bike into a barbed wire fence. So who knows if I bight my mouth or not

Well, when I bite down on my tongue/cheeks they leave the worst marks and doesn't feel good at all. This time when I had my seizure last week, I had bit down underneath the tongue and it hurt really bad, but not like it has in the past. But, today is alot better and feels better too, I can drink and eat and talk much better now. When, I would have these ulcers it would make you talk different that before I had the ulcers.

Yes. It’s definitely a problem from time to time. I wish my pain only lasted a few days. 🤪
