Here in Michigan, they advertise what they call DAM. Disability Attorney's of Michigan. See if they have something like that in your area.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , You might try looking for a different disability attorney. See if your local Epilepsy Foundation can recommend someone. Good luck. Your friend in Texas, Becky

I worked at NS railroad.. I live in VA and was in PA in a hotel for work and woke up in the floor. I woke up one morning with a bloody pillow from biting my tongue. Anyways, while I was furloughed a few years later, I decided it was time to stop pushing my luck. There was a big risk of being killed or other people and I was extremely lucky. So after about 18 months, I finally got my total disability through the railroad retirement board.. But anyways, just sharing my disability story..hopefully you'll get it back.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , Is there a reason you say you can’t get a lawyer to help you? A former team member who lived in the same city as my local Epilepsy Foundation & he use to volunteer there & he suggested I contact my local Epilepsy Foundation & tell them that I was trying to find out how to apply for disability, or something like that & they gave me the phone number of a law firm & they have a disability attorney & a case manager who helped me. Like @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member said, I provided the information that the attorney or case manager asked for & they did the rest of the work. They know what exact paperwork they need. It’s much easier with a disability attorney. I was denied twice by letter, trying to say that my disability doesn’t effect me being around people, yet it does, I not only have seizures, but in 2019 I started having verbal tics & they’re more active when I’m around others & I have TMJ that I go to physical therapy for & so if my verbal tics get to frequent close together my jaw might start hurting, etc. After about 2 to 2 & 1/2 years, I finally was approved. After being denied twice I had to do a phone hearing with a Judge, a vocational expert & my attorney. I was eventually approved. Everyone’s case is different & so some might take longer than others. It’s not uncommon for many to be denied the first time they apply. So I suggest you contact your local Epilepsy Foundation of Missouri & Kansas & ask if they know of a disability attorney who could help you. I didn’t pay anything until they won my case. Go to www.efmk.org & you should find their contact information on there. Good luck. Your friend in Texas, Becky

It has been very difficult. I can't get a lawyer to help me with anything either. I'm trying to understand all the paperwork I need to fill out from disability decision services but I think I need to get a representative for help but just don't know how. Good luck with Quinn16 with your hearing. Thank you for your comments.
