Just wondering if I’m gonna be in pain every 5 minutes for the rest of my life

Yes, after the change is made to the codes, it usually takes a few days, depending on the change; sometimes it is sooner. Eventually, you become used to it. I am sure your surgeon did better than mine. It took me a year to settle into the spot. Years later, when it was being removed after my brain surgery, the surgeon was floored by how crooked it had been put in. I am now over 11 years seizure-free. Never give up, you can do this.

When I had my VNS during the early 2000s my body did get use to the feeling of it, when it would release the electric surge. Can’t remember how many months it took to get used to it..

I got so well used to it. I wouldnt know when the surge was being released . My VNS was increased to its max voltage in me and I still didn’t feel it..

I did get used to the feeling of the VNS. It always tickled my throat and made me cough but I got used to it where I didn’t feel it so much

Will you get used to the VNS feeling?

The good news is that most people do adjust to the VNS device over time. While it sends electrical pulses regularly (typically for about 30 seconds every 5 minutes), the sensation usually becomes less bothersome as your body adapts to it.

Will you get used to the VNS feeling?

The good news is that most people do adjust to the VNS device over time. While it sends electrical pulses regularly (typically for about 30 seconds every 5 minutes), the sensation usually becomes less bothersome as your body adapts to it.

Common side effects that people experience include:
* Throat discomfort
* Hoarseness
* Coughing
* Trouble swallowing

These side effects are typically most noticeable when the device first activates, but many people report they become less aware of the stimulation as time goes on.

A MyEpilepsyTeam member shared that their child has had a VNS for over seven years and uses it successfully to stop drop seizures by swiping the magnet, suggesting the device becomes manageable with time.

If you're experiencing significant pain or discomfort, it's worth talking to your doctor. They may be able to adjust the settings to make it more comfortable while still being effective. The intensity and timing can be customized for each person.
