@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member: The differences between a Keto Diet and Ketogenic Diet are many things. First of all, many nutritionists and dietitians are under the impression that a Keto Diet means your supposed to stay completely away from carbohydrates and sugars. I know this from past experiences of seeing many dietitians and nutritionists over the years. As for the Ketogenic Diet this was strictly created for those who have Epilepsy. The Ketogenic Diet doesn't state to completely stay away from carbohydrates and sugars. What it does is that a person isn't supposed to have the artificial preservatives and sweeteners and the fake sugars. Also, another thing is with the Ketogenic Diet you're supposed to have the healthy fats. I read more about this and educated myself as well. One other thing is to be careful if you buy things that say Keto based, Keto friendly, and/or Keto. I bought shakes one time from the grocery store and other Keto foods, but got really bad seizure reactions. Basically, everyone's body is different and doesn't seem to agree with the Keto products. As in my case, I have to always look at the ingredients.

My food triggers are energy drinks, sports drinks, artificial preservatives and sweeteners, Monosodium Glutamate, Food Coloring, Food Dye, Herb Seasoning and Spice of Rosemary, Sage, Basil, Cane Sugar, Carbonated Beverages, Caffeine, and Aspartame. I do the Modified Atkins diet because the Ketogenic Diet doesn't work for me. Many things I tried that say Keto on them give me seizure reactions. A lot of people don't know there is a huge difference between a Keto Diet and Ketogenic Diet.

I have always had a liking for licorice tea whether it be iced or hot. Something I learned years ago was to only drink so much of it as the tea does have an effect on me. So I tend to drink one cup of iced licorice tea every two weeks just to enjoy the spice and still enjoy my iced tea. I am actually considering changing the timing to a longer date but haven't decided yet. Will be making a phone call to the local pharmacy on this as I'm curious what their thoughts are but I will also be having a chat with the epilepsy specialist next time we meet up as I'm quite curious what his thoughts are about the high name brand that I have been using. Until our meeting I will keep going with my safety first long period time schedule.

Note: think I might of found the answer I've been looking for - licorice tea can cause trouble with some AED medications. I'm going to do more research on this by making a phone call to the pharmacy this afternoon.

Final note: After speaking with pharmacist he is coming across same information I am coming across but in more detail. Involves a particular item that's in licorice itself so the agreement between the two of us was I'm no longer going to have anything to do with licorice. The tea is all being given to someone else that I know will enjoy and not have trouble or side effects.
