Hi! I'm looking into going on a diet and figured the Atkins diet can help lose weight and is known for helping epilepsy patients but every website I looked at makes it sound like it's mainly for kids? Has anyone tried it as an adult and had a decrease in seizures? Or have an insight at all?

Oh man! Losing weight on Lacosamide is impressive! I swear I gain just because I took it. Like every pill weighs something per mg. They even warned about it, and increased my Topirimate. So basically the Lacosamide makes it hard to lose weight while I'm not hungry. Yippee... of course I take 400mg of it a day.

brianmartin2 hit it on the head, very low carb, high fat. I've been eating like that with CBD and lacosamide and within a month I'd not only lost weight but seizure frequency slowed. After three months I'd lost 30 lbs and seizures were almost non existent (from at least one a week to 1-2 a month) plus I feel better and halved lacosamide to 50mg. Hope this helps - Henry

(crack knuckles) i am your guy. pre keto, i had seizure every -3 hours... with strict keto was a seizure every couple of days. and after collage, i was 1-3 a month... and cbd with keto, 1-3 a year. i was on the strict keto diet for 10 ish years (age 9-10 to 19-20), loose/mad (modified atkins diet) for another 10-15 ish years (age 21 to 32-35), and off and on keto/mad since then. the different keto diets and different atkins diets follow the same rule... high fat/low carbs/moderate protien diet. the standard keto and the mad diet are almost the same diet. only a few alterations (the serving size and a couple foods).
the drs that studied the keto diet (only for kids)... 1. are long since old and outdated and 2. drs think that every diet (diabetes, seizures, blood pressure, loosening weight) is for kids. that is cause do not fully develop til the late teen years. that is not true. adults are stubborn, set in what kinds of foods we eat, and allergies... but that is it. and the keto/mad diet are customizable to fit almost every need. with the right diet and attitude... you can make this diet work.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member The Atkins diet for epilepsy isn't the standard atkins diet its different. But I'm not sure on the differences. Thats why its always been called the modified Atkins diet.

My Epileptologist told me to try the modified Atkins diet ! It’s easier and it helps and it’s not as stringent!
