A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

My name is Missy I'm a proud mother a five girls. My youngest who is 6 years old is Madelyn. They have her on Oxteller pill form. 3 twice daily. She has spoke with seizures and was having grand mal seizures so far we have been seizure free since April when they adjusted her medicine. Her previous medicine was trileptal. This is my problem it doesn't matter what I do or which medicine she's on. She is extremely sleepy and it is affecting her in school, when she sleeps she doesn't learn I need… read more

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, Oxteller and Trileptal are both the same. I am taking the same drug Trileptal and the reason she is extremely sleepy is because that is one of the side effects of the drug. There are times i will take my meds and a couple of hours later i will feel sleepy and need to take a nap but i couldn't because i was at work and i had to fight through it. You have to keep track on if the med is controlling her seizures. If so, then it will be something she will have to adapt to. If not, then you have talk to the doctor to try another medicine so she can be alert in school. Try to keep a diary of when she is taking her meds and the dosage. And of course, how she is feeling. Hope she will feel better days ahead.

Trilepal and Oxtellar are the same drug .and yes it will make you tired, and hopefully ur daughter will not suffer more seizures like I do during hormones due at mense time which are linked to Epilepsy...I also take Oxtellar XR....time released(oxcarbezine) for more than 10 years still have breakthrough seizures... and not it's affect my mense cycle there called catamenial seizures due to hormones of progesterone and estrogen...it started 4yrs ago and it's linked to Epilepsy....I am so tired of living this way....

I wish I could tell you different but it's not just the meds making her feel sleepy. After certain types of seizures I too have to lay down and nap. Certain seizures can just drain a person of energy and leave them feeling fatigued, very tired, moody and out of strength. And I'm always very thirsty.
But my tiredness and confusion is why I couldn't continue with my college schooling and had to give up my scholarships.
