Does Shingles Vaccination Cause Seizures.
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

My wife had a Zostavax vaccine to prevent shingles and 14 hours later had grand mal seizure that lasted 20 minutes. The T8 joint in her back collapsed during the seizure. Never had a seizure before this, has had 3 since. We believe the Zostavax bought this on, has this happened to anybody else.

I've heard of this happening. It's listed as a side effect on most vaccines. Some cause encephalitic swelling of the brain causing seizures and some will cause fever seizures. I bet that's one of the side effects (the doctors never go over the potential side effects only the common ones like a sore arm). So sorry this happened

Thanks, my wife was 70 when this happened,I believe that the comment on Encephalitic swelling maybe correct. I asked a Doctor his thoughts and he thought that was quite likely and the swelling has probably gone now so would not show on an MRI
