Does anyone know if the Tdap vaccination for diphtheria and tetanus is supposed to increase the seizure risk activity? My primary doctor told me to get certain shots done but I don't think she read up on my history or paid attention to my medical history. I read online on a doctor's website that the tdap vaccination may increase the seizure risk activity. If they tell you to get something done every 10 years such as a shot (vaccination), then why tell a patient/person to get something like it… read more

When reading the Consent form about the Covid Vaccine, they ask if you have had seizures, I think they my mean as a result of takig one. If I could not have vaccines due to my Epilepsy, that would be werious.

Not that I know of. You could argue that with any vaccine this does in the first few hrs but the way vaccines work they are only at their peak the first 1-2 days then the body takes it on and it should work as it should. I'm other words technically you're sick for 1-2 days then your body fights it.

Does the Tdap vaccination increase seizure risk or affect seizure activity in people with epilepsy?

Based on the available information, there isn't specific evidence about Tdap vaccination affecting seizure risk or activity in people with epilepsy. The search results focus on other medications and factors that can influence seizures, but don't address Tdap vaccination specifically.

What we do know is that certain medications can increase seizure risk, including some antidepressants, antipsychotics, ADHD medications, and pain medications like tramadol. However, vaccines aren't mentioned in this context.

If you're concerned about getting the Tdap vaccine with epilepsy, it's best to discuss this directly with your healthcare provider. They can review your individual seizure history, current medications, and any potential interactions to give you personalized guidance about vaccination safety.

I have had the tetanus part of the vaccine about every other year for the last 20 years with no problems. I plan to get the Tdap the next time I am at the doctor's office. If you have concerns, you should have an honest conversation with your doctor face-to-face. If you start to read drug inserts that come with your medication, just about every one of them lists seizures as a side effect. Even some of the anticonvulsants list seizures as a side effect. I have also traveled a lot and have been vaccinated a lot, even for rabies, and I have not had any problems, except some of them made me very sore.

I used not to get vaccines. It was my parents belief. I had the measles, chickenpox, etc. when I went to college I took my shots. No problems! I had no problems! Each person is different!
