While having epilepsy alone does not mean you have a weakened immune system, it's important to discuss your history of vaccine reactions with your healthcare provider. Your experience with the COVID vaccine and seizures should be carefully considered when planning any future vaccinations.
Given your history of seizure activity following vaccinations, your neurologist should be consulted before receiving any new vaccines. They can help assess your individual risk and potentially adjust your anti-seizure medications temporarily around vaccination time if needed. If you do proceed with vaccination, consider these precautions:
- Have someone with you for monitoring after the vaccine
- Make sure you're well-rested and taking your medications as prescribed
- Stay hydrated and try to reduce other known seizure triggers around the time of vaccination
- Keep track of any side effects or seizure activity to report to your healthcare team
Remember that each person's response to vaccines can be different, even if they have the same type of epilepsy.

I just don't get shots anymore unless I'm sure I need them. I've had the flu only twice in the last 24 years so I don't get that shot. I had three COVID shots. I'm looking to get a shingles shot after my hip surgery. I haven't seen side-effects from any shots.
