My doctor would like me to try this one, but with insurance it still costs $120 per month and I just can't afford it.
Be careful with these seizure drugs. I was watching 20/20. I've left this comment somewhere else on this site. I believe it's Keppra & Vimpat that have cardio vascular side effect issues that nobody talks about when the doctors put you on the meds. Also, for myself, those were two of my most spectacular failures for medicines. With Keppres, I couldn't even get to a maintenance dose & with Vimpat, I couldn't speak normally. My vowels & consonants & words were garbled in speaking. Which is really strange & very frustrating. With my most recent dr, I agreed to try a medication & then backed out because I did research on it after I got home. The research on the drug, Fycompa and how it reacted with the drugs I was currently on was very disturbing. I changed my mind about agreeing to take the drug. Obviously my doctor wasn't doing hi job well.
There's also a Patient Assistance Program for a lot of the medications.
Look up your med on RX Outreach as for Vimpat go to their website and sign up for the coupon. I to take it 4 times a day have to refill it every 15 days. I will be taking with my doctor about cutting back.
Many companies have patient assistance programs. Your Dr should have that information, but sometimes drs aren't very helpful. You should also have a health and human services dept that will have info, or try Internet search for drug assistance.
\this update is as of December 2018. I hope the drs don't read these. The office I am with, we have just put each other through the ringer. The nurse handling authorizations, I would get her fired if I could. I wound up getting down to only ONE APTIOM before I got my refill. These people here don't know the meaning of the word work. If you live in this state and I'm offending you, sorry. It's totally different in other states. The doctors here are horrific They don't know how to take care of their patients. I've never dealt with such a level of ineptitude in my entire life.
I just found out that the generic for the onfi is not any better it is actually more expensive in the coverage gap with medicare than the brand name is. This seems ridiculous since the generic normally helps you out with a lower cost. I had to go through the coverage gap myself this year paying all of it and it was $784/month which is more than my rent and utilities combined.
