I had my first seizure 22 years ago. I have been on many mediction and so far no luck with being fully seizure free. I am on 1600 MG tegretol xr and 3000 MG of Keppra xr. Mood swings are horrible I was wondering if anyone knows of a way too help with those or a good way to handle them. Sometimes the smallest thing will trigger a rage. It's unbearable at times. Keppra changed my personality. I had a terrible time with rage. And it caused relentless depression. Those combined to make me a paranoid, explosive witch. I was miserable. And my family and friends didn't understand either - they just thought I had a bad attitude and I wasn't trying.
When the docs changed my meds, these problems resolved and I went back to being my "normal" self.

I had the exact same problem with Keppra! I went from a happy and bubbly person to snapping on everyone for no reason or crying uncontrollably.
I couldn't handle how much it changed me. It was my deal breaker side effect. I convinced my doctor to take me off of it. As soon as I was completely off, I was back to my normal self.
I had the same thing for 8 years! People saw I was angry and couldn't understand me! Finally I got under a doctor who reduced my Keppra! Now I am on my last week of 14+ years of Keppra! Already feeling mentally better for it! I'll see what sort of personality I'll get now!

It is a new medicine my neuro Doctor prescribe to me (: She said it helps everyone that has seizures (:
