Yes, don't let the threat of medications stop you! My neurologist stopped my Topamax to find a safer secondary medication and tried Vimpat (which didn't agree with me) but ended up on Neurontin with my Lamictal. Definitely follow closely with the dr for dosing adjustments and lab work and be prepared for seizures unfortunately. Take prenatal vitamins with DHA and extra folic acid (I take 1mg), and choose a gyne who will be flexible with your neuro's treatment plans. I ended up having a beautiful healthy baby and breastfed him for one year (which is very much encouraged, with only small amounts of medicine present in breast milk). And if you need any support or encouragement, there are a lot of other moms who share similar stories!

Hi Amanda, having read a certain response from Amber I hope she hasn't upset you, I thought she was a bit blunt and recommended to not have children '"just in case" does she not realise that every pregnancy has a threat of there being a problem not just because you have epilepsy!!

I am on Vimpat, lowered Keppra. There isn't a whole lot of info on Vimpat and pregnancy. However I have had previous healthy children while on other seizure medications... stress of being pregnant caused some seizures but they were healthy. Good luck. May you get your healthy baby. Did your doctor give you folic acid to take.
