Anyone Experience Many Muscle Spasms Or Partial Epileptic Spasms Before Epilepsy Took Over?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've been experiencing conscious night body spasms that start in my legs then moves to my neck and head then my whole body but the only time I wake confused is when it happens in my sleep. The neurologist I had, originally gave me flexeril but change me to neurontin. The flex help a lil with no side effects but the neurontin gives me major migraines tho it'll stop the spasms/seizures for a time. What to do? Is this real epilepsy?

Good idea. My epileptologist said that many times when we don't think we're having a seizure but have something like you described and I also have and had last night could also be seizures that do not act in the way you are used to.
I have been on both Gabapentin and Tegretol during my adventure through a lot of different meds. I am now on Lamictal and Vimpat - no help. I and scheduled for 8/20/15 to have a Neuropace implanted. If your E is intractable (many different drugs won't help) like mine, it may be the answer for you. Much better, as I see it, than a VNS (Vegus Nerve Implant).
Good luck,
Mark

I noticed that I recently started getting twitches and that my arms of legs would jerk or Twitch every So often but didn't give my Medication a thought, as I am on Gabapentin aka Neurontin and Tegretol although I have been on it for years! I will have to bring this to My Drs.. Attention!

I would talk to your Neuro about the meds and see if they are responsive to an EEG study at the hospital to confirm epilepsy. I just had one done this year after being told by 1 Dr that I did have epilepsy and by 2 others that I didn't. I was placed on so much medication that I'm suprised I was able to function day to day. I do not regret the EEG study. It did confirm that I have generalized epilepsy and medication changes were made. Good luck to you.

I have convulsions/spasms/shaking at night not regularly. My meds do not help. Took flexeril at one time for my epilepsy, can't remember if it helped. I think your issue is a symptom, but for me it was in addition to my epilepsy. No help probably
