Missed the timing to refill my medication. I won't receive it for about 3 days. I'm very anxious to go to work without it. I become anxious about it as well how should I handle my situation?

Let your pharmacist know that you’re not going to have any medication for a few days and they should be able to provide you with enough to get you through until the prescription arrives.

What's the best way to handle a 3-day gap in epilepsy medication while waiting for a refill?

First and most importantly — call your neurologist or pharmacist right away. Explain the situation. They may be able to provide an emergency supply or bridge prescription to cover those 3 days. Don't wait on this one. Missing seizure medication is the most common trigger for breakthrough seizures, even when epilepsy is well controlled. Here's what to keep in mind while navigating this gap:

- Contact your neurologist or pharmacist today — they can advise on next steps and may offer an emergency supply
- Ask about a bridge prescription — some pharmacies can dispense a small emergency amount with doctor approval
- Do not double up doses when your refill arrives — this can be unsafe
- Follow your seizure action plan — make sure someone at work knows about it, just in case
- Avoid known seizure triggers during this time, like sleep deprivation or stress where possible

The anxiety is completely understandable, but taking action now by calling your healthcare team will give you the clearest path forward and the most peace of mind. Going forward, setting a refill reminder about a week before running out can help avoid this situation. Many pharmacies also offer automatic refill programs that take the guesswork out entirely.
