I started a new job this week. The manager wanted to take me out to eat my first day. I said I couldn't go to a restaurant because I am sensitive to music and asked for a copy of the accommodation form to complete with my onboarding paperwork. She told me I didn't need to fill out a form and we could order in. Four days later I was terminated from my position. Technically two days since she has asked me not to come into the office one day since she was taking the day off. I never shared I… read more

I have never heard of going out to eat with a manager after being hired and then getting fired . If this manager was male he may of wanted more than, get to know you.

Now when I worked long enough and got to know the person, maybe .

You should get a hold of the corporation , about this incident .

He/she had no right firing you , for not going out with them.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, sorry to hear of the outcome of your employment. It's just another stigmatism a business has on people that will not allow an employee to look out for their health. Like it or not, me personally i hate when people asked me about my health. It depends on what they have heard about people with epilepsy. I had a business tell me that i was High-risk employee after telling them i had epilepsy. But, because of what they heard from another business who had an employee trying for a position, the first business didn't hire me. For the future, the least you tell a company about your epilepsy, the higher chance you have of getting hired. It sucks when you put on a face and tell companies about how honest you are, but businesses have to watch their bottom line.

I’ve worked at a store for 20+ years and have had epilepsy since day 1. When I have a seizure they roll out an office chair, sit me down and roll me into a room. Whenever I’m back aware from my seizure I get up and go back to work. My parents drive me to work and come pick me up. There’s a limit on how much I can work from Social Security Disability though.
