My issue is I fall asleep with no problems. It's staying asleep that I have challenges with. @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I think I'm going to speak with my doctor about the Alprazolam you mentioned. Thanks
Ask your Dr about trazadon..
The short answer is: find out the side effects of the ASMs that you are currently taking. If you're not going to see your neuro. for a while, then as much as I hate doing it myself, I'd suggest that you look that drug up online and find out it's most common side effects. I say that I hate this way is that you can't believe everything that is online. An ASM that I am taking now(Lamictal) has the side effect of keeping me awake. But it is controlling my seizures, so I put up with it. On the other hand, most of the ASMs that I was on made me drowsy, among them were Depakote, Mebaral, Tegretol, Clonazepam, Zonisamide, & Dilantin...these, like the majority of ASMs have drowsiness as a common side effect. Like I always say, everyone is different and may not carry the same side effects with their ASMs. Hope that you find your answer Darren.
Usually the medications make a person sleepy. I go to sleep by watching something boring (like a documentary) on T.V. If that does not work, I take 100 mg. of dipenhydromine, which is usually in Benedryl or an allergy pill. I hope this helps.
I listen to podcasts or stories. By focusing on these instead of “stuff” running through my mind, I am usually able to fall asleep in 15-30 min.
Before this, I take magnesium glycinate and a warm Epsom salt bath.
