Good afternoon! That's a great question — and yes, auras can happen at any time, including during exercise like indoor cycling.
An aura is actually a type of focal aware seizure that often acts as a warning sign before a more intense seizure. They can show up unexpectedly, even mid-workout. Some common aura sensations people with epilepsy describe include:
- A "rising" feeling in the stomach
- Unusual smells or tastes
- Feelings of déjà vu
- Intense emotions like fear or anxiety
- Visual disturbances
- Numbness or tingling
A MyEpilepsyTeam member shared their approach when an aura strikes: "When I feel the auras, I will find a safe place no matter where that is. If I'm out, I will go down to the floor." If auras happen during indoor cycling, it's worth having a safety plan ready — like stopping pedaling immediately, getting off the bike carefully, and alerting someone nearby. Talking to a neurologist about a personalized seizure action plan for exercise situations is a really smart move.

I do yoga instead.Any strenuous activity can trigger seizures. Its heating your body up.which can trigger them. Keep away from spicy foods, keep away from the sun and try not to stress out.
