I had 2 seizures and since then have had absence seizures. I felt like I was diagnosed as epileptic since I didn’t have a stroke and had no heart issues. No one can say why this just started happening in my 50s.
I began with focal awares in my mid-fifties, diagnosed at age 62, I'm 70 now. Epilepsy definitely wasn't on my bingo card. Up until then I had a helluva life. I was working hard and partying harder. Epilepsy put an end to both. Now I'm working with what's left. I feel like I've been robbed.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , Years ago, sometime after my parents married, probably when they were about 18 or 19 years old, my Dad started having bad grand mal seizures & no one ever knew what caused them to start. Dad passed away from cancer in 2012. I’m almost 48 & started having seizures in the 2nd grade after hitting my head on the monkey bars & for years we didn’t know if I got my seizures from hitting my head on the monkey bars, from my Dad or both, but at a place where I went to for counseling, they had a head injury test thing & did that on me & it showed that I have had a head injury & so they believe I got my seizures from hitting my head on the monkey bars & not my Dad. My Dad’s grand mal seizures were worse & more frequent than mine. I have simple & complex partial seizures & nocturnal seizures where I have seizures in my sleep & growing up I had petit mal seizures, now known as absence seizures. Prayers that your seizures calm down & you can relax. Take care. Your friend in Texas, Becky
Im 60 and ive had seizures since 3 months young. Our metabolism changes as we age which can cause epilepsy. Reguardless if youve been healthy throughout your life.
Your not alone I'm 52 and these started in on me last December
I got diagnosed at 60.
