Members responded to someone trying to find work while managing a disability and feeling unsure about cashiering, offering both encouragement and practical direction. Several members suggested exploring resources like the Department of Rehabilitation Services, temp agencies, and workforce centers, while also pointing out that many retail jobs include non-cashier roles like stocking shelves or cart retrieval. A recurring theme was the importance of self-advocacy, knowing your limits, and finding workplaces that match your pace and comfort level.

Besides going to DRS, you can check with a temp agency. They can do skill tests for certain jobs and help you get placed.
I have done cashiering, reception, mailroom and more with my seizures over last 30+ years. You have to be your own advocate if you don't feel well or if something/someone doesn't feel/treat you right.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Pretty much. I did feel like crap the last few months I was there so I was desperate to get out. Originally the reason I was leaving was due to my knee but towards the end it was more due to how hard it was to work there. Then when I tracked back it turned out I was most likely working and having seizures and not even knowing about it.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member It was ok when I first started apart from the two year period where I just didn't know anyone and a lot of my old work mates in the current detarment and my old department were leaving so it got really depressing. Because it was a fast paced environment I always knew I would need to get out at some point. The work itself was very fast paced and very repetitive. I actually did my knee so I always thought my body just couldn't take it much longer. I didn't know the months after I left I would then have a TC seizure.
