you no you’re not or no it’s not you’re just being lazy? How do you make the person understand what you’re feeling or going through that day to make them understand? To keep them from assuming that you’re just faking it and being lazy when you’re not?

Members responded with deep understanding to the question of how to handle people dismissing epilepsy-related fatigue and exhaustion as laziness, with a strong shared feeling that those without the condition simply cannot fully understand what it is like. Several members offered practical strategies for getting through to others, including using relatable comparisons like describing a seizure as cramming a high-intensity workout into 45 seconds, sharing medication side effects in writing, and keeping explanations short by simply saying 'I can't do that today.' A recurring theme was learning to prioritize personal health over others' opinions, with many finding peace in accepting that not everyone will understand and choosing self-advocacy instead.

Hidden disabilities come with many hidden symptoms until we crash out. I got so stressed out explaining everything all the time. But I strive on day by day or moment by moment. I have learnt to keep myself to myself and tell people on a need to know basis.

Sometime it doesn’t matter. We can keep telling them and telling them till we’re blue in the face.. they will still think we’re making an excuses.

Quinn, I know how you feel and if others can't understand which some can due to feeling similar situations having other health ordeals. Myself I don't care if others can't, as long as I understand that's all that matters.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I agree, I've been happy with all of my Neurologists and other Doc's for the most part, 1 or 2 I've departed from, as I get frustrated with them over the years. I have too many 🙃. I know @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member has been trying to find a suitable doc for many years and I've told him to get a new one, but that may be harder where he's at, I don't know. Like you said, they'll never know what we go through when having a seizure. Take care Nate

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I went through this topic several times in the past couple weeks, or should I say I finally broke and let others know that unless you personally have epilepsy, you have no clue what I must deal with on a daily basis whether it be the actual seizures and their effects or the issues with the general populous, or the treatments and their side effects. And since noone has a clue: Not my brothers, my parents or relatives, my friends, not even my doctors (neurologist or otherwise).
My neurologist will never know what I deal with, he can't. She can TRY to get a grasp on how to control it. If they say they will, I challenge them to tell me if anyone has mapped what each part of the brain that God gave us does, how it morphs to compensate for issues, how each neuron, and synapse fires, how it interacts with eachother to get the thought patterns, memories, emotions, etc..
Multiple neurologist/epileptologists admit it's a guessing game, it's not always straight forward A+B=C because they just don't know, and not possible to figure out EXACTLY how the brain that GOD gave us works. There's no way in hell that sinful, imperfect man can figure that one out.
So Quinn, to your questions
I try to put into simple terms, for them to understand. If they can't you can only go so far. Since they can't understand it, they judge in ignorance. I deal with this a lot. They say they understand, but can't. Sorry to say it, There are those that really try and for them I'm grateful.
