I'm sorry to hear that Sean.
My seizures remained the same after I got the VNS
I had the VNS done in 2005. It died in 2010.
First things first. What I have experience with the VNS , others may of experienced different results..
For me the VNS didn’t help reduce my seizures. My seizures stayed the same.. my VNS was set up at the highest level and still didn’t work well for me. I never replace the stimulator. My doctor and I agreed it wasn’t worth it.
Thankyou for your knowledge and help SueElf. May I ask what you mean by the 'four cycle' please.
Your a strong and brave person Sue.
Thankyou.
I had the VNS device installed as of 2008. The settings were quite easy to be done, I did go through all of the four cycle settings however due to the seizure activity not wanting to slow down. The medication had a lot to do with it. The VNS we used was from Cyberonics is now under the name Liva Nova (took place in 2018) due to a group of smaller companies that took over and began improving the device itself to help patients that need assistance.
I've been with them for a very long time so quite aware of how things with the VNS works. As I was about to say, due to the four cycles causing troublesome activity, my neurologist and my neurosurgeon spoke about options.
I was brought into the conversation then the neurosurgeon and I decided to move forward with the Deep Brain Stimulator device surgery in 2011. I was mapped on both sides of my brain as seizure activity is taking place on both sides. Because of the DBS I can better control my seizure activity using both the DBS and the VNS devices.
