I watch a lot of Netflix and like to learn new things. I learned how to read medical code, how to rebuild a motor, and etc. Right now im learning bookkeeping and then onto accounting.

I've taken short courses from time to time including bookkeeping mainly because I'm trying to get a job lol. But outside of that I play lawn bowls or I'm always streaming something.

I'm a multi-instrumentalist musician, a former professional photographer, toolmaker/machinist, and general tinkerer. I occasionally visit local garage and estate sales looking for items I can restore and resell. I have several aging neighbors that I do yard maintenance and home repairs for.

Plus, it's not a hobby, but the fellow next door is 96 y/o and lives alone. We've been neighbors for 38 years. He doesn't get a lot of visits from his family, so I spend a lot of time with him, because I can see that he craves the company. His days are tough. Loneliness can be a sad existence. He's in decline and cries a lot, and I can't just sit by and watch that.

Wow, rebuilding a motor AND learning bookkeeping? That's seriously impressive β€” keeping the brain busy is actually a wonderful way to manage life with epilepsy!

Many MyEpilepsyTeam members have found that hobbies and activities help with stress management, which is important since stress can be a seizure trigger. Here are some hobbies and activities members have found helpful:

- Yoga β€” helps with breathing, stress relief, and body awareness
- Music β€” one MyEpilepsyTeam member called it "a lifeline"
- Journaling β€” great for tracking moods, triggers, and feelings
- Light exercise like walking β€” boosts energy and supports better sleep
- Meditation and mindfulness β€” shown to help improve mood

Learning new skills like bookkeeping keeps the mind engaged and can also help reduce stress β€” a real win-win!

Just one thing to keep in mind with Netflix: limiting screen time, especially an hour before bed, can help protect sleep quality, which is really important for seizure management.
