I have basal temperoccipital lobe epilepsy and I've always been super unorganized to the point where back in elementary school locker clean out day the stuff would be stacked higher than how tall I was, now I'm still unorganized and it still doesn't bother me and I feel like I prefer it that way it drives my in laws insane. I've been like this for as long as I can remember I don't know if this is my personality, a side effect of my medications or if it's possible it's epilepsy related like if… read more

Members responded warmly to the question about whether disorganization could be epilepsy-related, with many sharing that they experience the same struggle and connecting it to seizures, medications, or co-occurring conditions like ADHD or OCD. Several members offered practical strategies that have helped them, including smartphone apps like DoseCast and Reminders, day planners, writing tasks down, and listening to instrumental music with one earbud to improve focus. A recurring theme was that the cause may differ for everyone, whether rooted in epilepsy, medication side effects, or neurodivergence, but the community agreed that self-awareness and finding personal systems can make a real difference.

It's like that for me now, I get exhausted if I do too much in a short time. I try and work at my own pace now or I will pay for it if not.

Oh my!! I have small piles of "to-do" lists of papers in various areas of my desk. Some for years. One day I'll get to them. You're not the only one.

I also plan what I will do the next day.

I used to be super organized but I’ve found it much harder now. I use a day planner and write many things down and that help a lot. Just the act of writing helps lodge it in my brain.

THIS CAN DEFINITELY BE RELATED TO EPILEPSY, NAOMI. It can have to do with the condition itself, but also just the medicine they give you. Nearly all seizure medicine puts something called GABA into the brain. Well, GABA slows down brain function in many ways. Once you take those pills -- and while you take them -- you will probably be more disorganized. Don't let it get ya, keep movin' forward! Regards, Jake
