I have been getting more frequent auras and I can’t tell if it’s because of my anxiety, or if it is actually getting worse. I have 2 more scans left in the work up and then I’m done and it’ll be time for them to decide whether I can get the resection, or one of the devices. I’ve been excited for this but also so nervous. I want the surgery because there is a possibility of it being “cured”. They have added to tests/ scans that I have had done, than what was in the original order. Does this mean… read more

I think mine are now basically controlled with my meds and watching my triggers. I do not worry about when the next might happen. Anxiety and Stress are not good for me.

Its more then likely if you have on going auras then its due to very poor seizure control. Anxiety doesn't help but they would need to work out a much better way to control the seizures first. To add the Anxiety my even be part of the auras if you have TLE. Once they work out what's going one and treat it the auras should dramatically reduce on completely stop which.

First of all, take a breath — what you're going through is genuinely a lot, and the mix of excitement and nerves makes complete sense. You're not overreacting at all.

First of all, take a breath — what you're going through is genuinely a lot, and the mix of excitement and nerves makes complete sense. You're not overreacting at all.

On the big question about extra scans being added: honestly, it could mean either thing, and there's no way to know without asking your team directly. It could mean they've spotted something promising and want to confirm it, or they may need more data to get a clearer picture. Neither interpretation is necessarily bad news.

The most empowering thing to do is ask your neurologist or epileptologist directly:

- "Why were additional scans added to my workup?"
- "Have you identified a potential focal point for my seizures?"
- "What are you hoping to learn from the remaining scans?"

You deserve clear answers, and a good epilepsy team will welcome those questions. Regarding the neuropsych results and executive functioning — those tests are done specifically to help the surgical team protect critical brain functions during any resection. It's actually a really important part of keeping you safe, not a judgment on you as a person.

As for doing this mostly alone — that weight is real, and many MyEpilepsyTeam members have shared similar feelings of fear and exhaustion during uncertain times in their epilepsy journey. One MyEpilepsyTeam member shared that they were "afraid to sleep" and "sore and exhausted" but chose to stay strong — and others rallied around them.

You're closer to answers than you've ever been. That's worth holding onto. 💙
