Music is a trigger for me and I have to wear ear plugs everywhere I go. I'm looking for a part-time job for extra income to pay rent, but I have so much trouble staying in stores for more than a couple minutes. Overhead music is a given everywhere - the local goodwill, kohls, old Navy... but they are all hiring. And I can't ask them to turn down (or even off) the music during my shifts can I? At the locals Kohls, they remodeled the inside where I met the nicest lady sitting on a chair behind… read more

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member,
Understood and agreed.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Exactly. Then they come up with stupid performance KPI's that are completely pointless.
Not to influence you in any kind of way, so please keep this in mind.
I was in retail sales for over 20 years. I will never go back.
I’m sure many here can relate a much better response.
Retail sales can be very demanding depending on your position. It would all depend on your capabilities physically and mentally. If you’re strong in both areas, you’ve got this.
I stopped telling people now too. If I have to say something, I start with I'm sensitive to light and sound and see how it goes. I enjoy the social aspect of retail, but seeing these comments, maybe I shouldn't hold onto the idea I can do it. @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I didn't think about those positions and set up a notification on Indeed. Thank you! The only other openings around here right now are hotels (but they only have one person at the front desk and I didn't like that) or fitness centers (and they have really loud overhead music as well). I'm sure there are more options out there I'm not even aware of so if anyone thinks of anything else, I appreciate your comments and feedback. @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I agree, it is so loud. It's gotten so painful even with earplugs that I've had to leave a restaurant before they even bring the water. I saw a guy on YouTube doing an interview break down in tears within 15 seconds and they were like what's going on? He was sensitive to sound (not sure if it is related to epilepsy or something else) and they had to adjust the environment so they could continue. It can be a tough scenario. have a good night everyone
If a company hires someone who has a disability and has let the company know about their disability, they have to accommodate!!!!!!!!
That is a huge human rights violation.
I have had to go through an arbitration process due to this with the company that I work for.
