@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member & @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , Just like @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member said, I have a mouth guard specifically made by my dentist to fit my mouth I have TMJ where I grind my teeth when I sleep & clinch my jaw. I go to physical therapy for my TMJ every 2 weeks because experience off & on jaw pain. The over the counter mouth guards were too loose. At my dentist office they use some kind of clay stuff to specifically make it to fit my teeth. Of course over time they break & one time when my mouth guard broke I didn’t have any insurance & so I couldn’t just go see my regular dentist to get another one made. During that time, I had a seizure in my sleep on 2 different nights, probably not far apart from each other, one night I had bitten my bottom lip so bad that it was swollen, numb & hurt so bad that I went to see my Family doctor but all she could recommend was an ice pack to help the swelling & then I think it was a few days or so later that I had another seizure in my sleep & that time I bit my tongue & it was sore. That helped me realize that not only does my mouth guard help me with my TMJ, but it helps to protect my mouth if I have a seizure in my sleep. Even with my mouth guard, I still bite my cheeks just a little bit once in a while or maybe the inside of my mouth below my bottom lip, but I mainly only feel bumps with those instead of pain. It’s best to first check with your dentist to see if they could do & you want to make sure it’s a little thick or I like it that way in order to know I’ll have that protection & then the other thing to check on is the cost of it & if your insurance would help cover any of the cost or if you would have to pay any out of pocket. Yes, it might be a little expensive, but if you want to look into protecting your mouth during your sleep, to me it’s worth it. Again, mine over time break & so I have to get another one made. Each time I go see the dentist or hygienist, I give my mouth guard to the hygienist & she puts it in a special cleanser while she works on me. Hope this helps. Take care. Your friend in Texas, Becky

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , Since it is seizure related, you could contact your local Epilepsy Foundation to see if they might be able to help you, but I don’t know if they would help or not. But you could look into a mouth guard that would help protect your mouth, once you get the current issue taken care. Prayers you can get some help. Take care. Your friend in Texas, Becky

Thank you for that information. Unfortunately in my case the damage has already been done. I was thinking more along the lines of help paying the high price to have the damage fixed. Sorry for the confusion. I should have explained in more detail.
