Members broadly shared their experiences with tooth extractions, with many connecting dental issues directly to epilepsy medications like Dilantin, which several described as causing gum swelling, bleeding, weakened enamel, and eventual tooth loss. Many community members described having all their teeth removed due to medication side effects or seizure-related injuries like falls, with some now wearing dentures or pursuing implants. A recurring theme was the importance of advocating for medication changes and working closely with dentists, and many offered reassurance that extractions are often quicker and less painful than expected.

Probably because you were upright and your tongue wouldn't have obstructed your airway. The thing that causes the tongue is because typically, a person would fall to the ground and have a seizure on their back. To fully open up an airway we would have to put our head back into that 'chin lift, jaw thrust' position first aiders are taught. That's why it's safest to put a person having a seizure in the Recovery position. Theoretically if you was sat in a chair and your head fell backwards whilst having the seizure, it would naturally open up your airway and reduce the risk of your tongue obstructing it. My tonic clonic seizures occur in my sleep.

I'm currently stuck in the foetal position because my back is too sore to move. This and biting my tongue is how I know I've had a seizure in my sleep. I physically can't stand up straight and I have the postictal tremors.

Oh my jeeves! Yes yes and yes!! Cause I clench my jaw so right and grind my teeth I've had to have wisdom teeth took out, the one had a filling in and I had broke the tooth in half and kept getting bits of silver just appear and I was like whaataat!? But my teeth have moved so now I have a lucky gap that I never had before and a gap on my bottom front teeth. Annoying much!

Yes, all on the bottom. And implant dentures.

Yes, I've had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled and another tooth pulled about a year ago. I was a little hesitant to havecit done because I hate pain, but he shot me with novacaine and it was a walk in the park. Don't worry about getting a tooth extracted!

All 4 wisdom teeth were removed at once back in the late 1980’s. 2 were impacted.
