Condition of, I don't have anything against them and the commercials that are there, but I have general epilepsy and I have not seen a commercial to my knowledge of being shown for any kind of epilepsy concerning the condition of epilepsy whatsoever to this day since being diagnosed with, I am kinda wondering and curious about why that maybe and has not been shown yet?a neutral post is all and your thoughts on it is all?
Ads don't exist, there's no money in it. If you noticed, all the ads are regarding conditions that are relatable, visible, can be easily diagnosed, there's money in research & treatment. Tumor may be the cause of seizures, so if you treat /remove it, life may return to normal. The only time I've heard it on TV was on FOX news and by my Senator, but only once as it's still so taboo, how can you even explain it to someone.
Epilepsy Awareness only goes so far because the normal Joe on the street won't be able to recognize it. In times past, when I've had seizures other than Tonic-Clonic my bosses, professors, & others around me would tell me to "PROVE" I had epilepsy. While I could provide a letter from my MD, they would then tell me I needed to prove it was a seizure at that point in time. So again I say Epilepsy Awareness only goes so far because even the general population is aware of it, they can't easily RECOGNIZE it.
That said, there are a great many who try to understand epilepsy. A HS buddy, an MD, is one.
Epilepsy because of its nature, (ie. neurological) deals synapses firing, etc, it can be mistaken for many common conditions, reactions / responses.
Do you mean ads about epilepsy awareness? Tbh I've never really seen a tv ad about it. There is other ad types about it and the charities run creative campaigns. Tbh I think digital advertising is probably better now anyway Its a lot cheaper and a lot more people would see it. TV advertising is very expensive and these days the viewers for traditional tv ads is only going down.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I agree with you, & thanks for clarification to the question, there needs to be a good reason, beyond just treatment / testing. Health campaigns aren't widely known in the US, definitely not from the government as most things go to the private sector, thus the monetary aspect. The only time I've seen major awareness campaigns was during epidemics (AIDS & COVID) and other issues also common to the general public.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member The only exception with these types of ads is when they start seeing rapidly rising cases and they feel the need for a campaign is needed. I'm not sure about other countries but compared to other conditions epilepsy in Australia has always been very low to mid numbers and always been very stable. It's never really had any real rapid increase in numbers. Not in my time anyway.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I mean it could happen if there was a very good reason to do it but it would be more of a health campaign type thing. These types of ads have been around for years in Aus funded by the government but there always needs to be a good reason to do them then on top of that there needs to be some kind of treatment or testing investment being done that is being promoted.
